Classic Boat Supplies has partnered with Barkley Sound Oar & Paddle Limited to distribute high quality Sitka Spruce oars in Australia.  Barkley Sound has manufactured timber paddles, straight blade and spoon blade oars from their premises in British Columbia, Canada since 1983.

Sitka spruce is an ideal timber for oars.  It is a fast-growing timber in plentiful supply which has a high strength-to-weight ratio. Long used in aircraft manufacture (the Wright Brothers took advantage of sitka spruce), this timber is ideal for oar construction.

Barkley Sound oars have an excellent reputation. Their manufacturing technique and machinery has evolved to allow consistently high quality in oar and paddle production.  Their spoon blade oars, with finer and more efficient blades, feature epoxy resin and glass strand tips to help reduce wear. Each oar is double dipped in premium spar varnish to act as a protective coating and to bring out the beautiful sitka spruce colour and grain.
